Prevention of tooth decay
 

Wiping babies teeth after they eat or drink helps to prevent decay. We give new mothers "tooth tenders" which is a cloth that is put on the finger, moistened, and then used to wipe baby's teeth.
As children mature, they should be encouraged to brush their teeth twice a day and helped to floss. Using a toothpaste containing fluoride is also helpful. Older children may use a fluoride rinse.

When six year olds get their first molars, we recommend putting on "Sealants" to close pits and fissures in their teeth.

Nutrition is also an important factor in the prevention of tooth decay. We suggest to moms and dads that their kids be given healthy snacks - limiting their intake of candy and pop.
